Because our clients are highly technical, it’s often difficult for us to find writers that are both creative as well as knowledgeable. Over time, we grew weary of rewrites, as have our writers, so we tested a new process. We now have a production process where we set up a portable podcast studio on location – or we dial them in – and we record a few podcasts. We also record the interviews on video. We then send the audio and video out for transcription and captioning. We then provide the transcription to our writers who combine them into topical articles we publish on the clients’ blog or submit to a third-party industry site.

The company we’re using for this is Rev, recommended by an amazing video company we work with, Train 918. Prices are affordable, the turnaround is incredible, and the qualify of the transcription has been top notch. As we push our clients into more and more video, we also want to caption the video in real-time since so many platforms will preview video without playing the audio. Rev provides this service as well. Rev offers the following services:

  • Audio Transcription – a team of transcriptionists takes your audio recording and transcribes them to 99% accuracy. Upload your files via the web or iPhone Transcription App, and get a complete transcript in as soon as 12 hours. Transcriptions are done by people, not speech recognition software, so they can capture more of the nuance and at a higher accuracy than software. Rev can handle nearly any type of audio format (including MP3, AIF, M4A, VOB, AMR, and WAV).
  • Video Transcription – a team of transcriptionists takes your video recording and transcribes them to 99% accuracy. Upload your files via the web, and get a complete transcript in as soon as 12 hours. Rev video professionals manually transcribe the verbal and important non-verbal aspects of your video and align the phrases to screen times. Rev can handle nearly any type of video format (including MP4, WMV, M4A, MOV, AVI, VOB, AMR, WMA, OGG).  Rev also has integrations with Youtube and Kaltura.
  • Video Caption – All caption files are FCC and ADA compliant and meet Section 508 requirements. Captions are in compliance with Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Hulu and other standards. Customers may select among many captions file formats (all at no additional charge): SubRip (.srt), Scenarist (.scc), MacCaption (.mcc), Timed Text (.ttml), Quicktime Timed Text (.qt.txt), Transcript (.txt), WebVTT (.vtt), DFXP (.dfxp), Cheetah .CAP (.cap), Spruce Subtitle File (.stl), Avid DS Subtitle File (.txt), Facebook ready SubRip (.srt) , XML (.xml), and others. Submit your video file, a link to your video stored (online video platform, FTP, Dropbox, etc.), or integrate with their API. You will receive a captions file that you can use immediately, upload to your online platform of choice (e.g. Vimeo, Wistia), or load into your video editing software (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro).
  • Translated Video Subtitle – Rev creates foreign language subtitle files for videos. Their professional translators use customer-approved master caption files and your video to create a subtitle file in a variety of languages and formats. By default, Rev subtitle files are also FCC and ADA compliant. Translation languages include Arabic, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Chinese (traditional & simplified), Czech, Danish, Dutch, Farsi, French, Georgian, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Spanish (European, Latin America, American Hispanic), Swedish, Tagalog, Thai.
